Reflex Math

Parents,
Today your child will be bringing a letter home regarding a program called reflex math. It is a fantastic math fact fluency program that the school district has given us access to. Please read through the letter and sign in using the provided login information. I would recommend spending 10-15 minutes a day on this program. You will be amazed at how quickly your child will become comfortable with math facts. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for your support.

Spelling Test Sentences

As spelling tests start to go home I’d just like to provide some clarification on how I grade the three sentences on the bottom. These sentences are dictated orally and contain words students either already know how to spell or have learned the spelling/phonics patterns and should be able to decode them.

The students can earn one point for each of the following:
  • ·      Starting the sentence with a capital letter
  • ·      Ending with the correct punctuation
  • ·      All the words spelled correctly
  • ·      Proper spacing between words
  • ·      Handwriting

This allows for a total of 5 points per sentence.

Odds and Ends

Parents,

Just a few reminders and updates for you. First, please make sure your child’s red folder is coming back to school each day. It will go home every day so please check it for notes and papers. It helps them stay organized at school with somewhere to keep their papers.

Second, please remember there is no school for students this Friday.

Third, Thursday, September 25 is picture day.

Finally, tomorrow we have the Living Planet Aquarium coming to visit with second grade! It should be a great experience. Please be sure to ask your child what they learned.

Thank you for your support and please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
