Congratulations to…

My homeroom class for earning the highest class average on the states and capitals test! It was a close one, only a 2 point difference! I had some high scorers but for those of you who want to try again we will do so April 18.
Don’t forget to keep reading and practicing math facts over spring break. Have a great week off!

States and Capitals!

For the past several weeks we have been practicing states and their capitals! Wednesday March 28 we will be taking our pretest. If a student scores 100% (meaning they labeled the state correctly and identified it’s correct capital) then they are done! If not, we will take the test again in April. Also, as an incentive I have decided that the class with the highest average after the pre-test will earn ice cream in social studies the next day, so keep practicing and good luck!

Looking for a good book?

Many of you have been asking for book recommendations. Of course, there are endless choices but here are some starting ideas. One is a link to KSL with an article for ideas more specifically geared towards boys. The other link is to wikipedia which has a list of some classic literature which would challenge students but keep them engaged with familiar stories. Please note that some are a bit more mature than others. I reminded the students please always check with a parent before starting a book :)Happy Reading!

Writing Assessment

After months and months of practice tomorrow is our official 5th grade writing assessment! The students have been practicing and working hard at this all year and I know they will do great. I have reminded them to get a good night sleep and eat a good breakfast in the morning. They will have as long as they need for the test and am sure they will be glad when it’s over. Thanks for your support :)
