Science Fair Reminders...

Science fair starts tomorrow! We will be setting up in the morning and then students will not go back to their projects until Friday when judging is complete. With that said we have had some questions brought up about whether or not items involved with the experiment can be left with the project (i.e. laptops showing video clips, iPods, candy, etc.) we are advising that nothing be left with the projects. This is for a couple of reasons; one we will not be down there with the projects, which runs the risk of items being damaged or stolen.  Two, the display board should be self-explanatory; the projects shouldn’t necessarily need a DVD, for example, to supplement.

Friday is our open house for the science fair. Although your students won’t be down there all day you (parents, families, etc.) are welcome to come see these fabulous projects anytime that day! We are asking that students pick up their projects at 5:00pm on Friday, however, if that doesn’t work they can take them home Monday after school. I am excited to see all of them tomorrow and as always if you have questions please feel free to contact me!

Help Needed!

I hope you all had a great three day weekend! I know the kids are looking forward to another one this weekend (no school this Friday). I have a few updates from 5th grade and some items we need your help with.
·      First off, your child is working on becoming a published author but your help is needed to make it happen. We are working on a surprise book project (you’ll see the completed project later in the year) but in order to be published we need a parent signature from every child. Every child will get one free book, however you have the option to order more if you want. A form will be sent home today. If you want extra copies (besides the one free one) fill out the form completely. If not, please check the box that says “no” on the bottom and sign. We need these no later than Thursday!
·      Second, we are in need of judges for science fair! The dates are February 1-2. If you are interested please contact me or Nancy Bauman (6th grade teacher) at nancy.bauman@canyonsdistrict.org. Please let one of us know ASAP!
Finally, a great big thank you for helping your wonderful students out with their president reports. They were great on Friday, definitely a successful wax museum :)
As always, if there is anything I can do or any questions you have please feel free to contact me! Stacey.stanger@canyonsdisrtict.org

A bit of clarification...

On the presidents wax museum note that was sent home before the break it stated that the speeches are due tomorrow. However, recognizing that not everyone may have it ready quite yet we are allowing students to start giving speeches tomorrow if they are ready. We will take some class time everyday for the next week to give speeches, so they can practice speaking in front of an audience and work out any kinks. Please be working on them and be ready to share them soon!

Next Friday (January 13,2012) is when the boxes are due and the official wax museum will take place. Students will need to be prepared to give their speeches in front of others that day and as the letter states be ready to entertain and educate. Our "museum" will run from 11:00am-12:15pm and we would love to have you join us! We will spend next week in social studies discussing how a president becomes a president; it should be a fun week! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Thanks for all your hard work.
